1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how Sim Racing Science ("Sim Science", "we", "us") collects, uses and protects personal information when you use our website at simracingscience.com and the services available through it (together, the "Website").

Sim Science is responsible for your personal information. You can contact us at contact@simracingscience.com.

The Lapify Telemetry app has its own privacy policy, which applies to information collected by the app. This policy should be read together with our Terms of Use.

2. Information we collect

Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, login details and subscription status. Payments on our website are handled by our payment provider; we do not store full card details.

Linked accounts. When you sign in with or link an iRacing, Garage 61 or Discord account, we receive the name and account identifier of that account (for example, your iRacing display name and customer ID).

Information from linked sim racing services. With your permission, we collect information from the sim racing services you connect, in order to provide the Website's features to you:

iRacing: your race results and related session information;
Garage 61: the lap, session and driving statistics data held in your Garage 61 account, and, where you belong to a Garage 61 team connected to Sim Science, your membership of that team.

We collect this information only while the account is connected. If a linked account is disconnected, we stop collecting information from it.

Information you give us. If you contact us, send a business enquiry, or sign up for updates or a testing programme, we keep the information you provide, such as your name, email address, the games you are interested in, and the content of your message.

Referral information. If you join through a referral link or a link shared by another user, we record the referral so that it can be credited to the person who shared it.

Technical information. When you visit the Website, we automatically collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and the date and time of your visit. If you connect the Lapify Telemetry app to your account, we keep a record of that connection.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

provide the Website and its features, including analysis of your racing data from the services you connect;
manage your account and subscription, and process payments;
run our referral programme;
keep the Website secure, prevent misuse, and fix problems;
communicate with you about the Website and your account, and send updates you have asked for;
comply with our legal obligations.

We do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell it.

Legal bases (EU and UK users). We process your information because it is necessary to provide the services you signed up for (performance of a contract); for our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving the Website; with your consent, for example when you connect a third-party account or sign up for updates, which you can withdraw at any time; and where the law requires it.

4. How we share your information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only:

with service providers that process it on our behalf under confidentiality obligations, such as cloud hosting, payment processing and email delivery;
with the services you connect, to the extent needed to make the connection work;
where the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, Sim Science or others;
in a business transfer, such as a merger or sale of all or part of our business, in which case this policy continues to apply to your information.

We may publish aggregated, de-identified statistics that cannot be used to identify you.

Third-party services. Signing in with iRacing, connecting a Garage 61 or Discord account, or paying for a subscription takes you to that provider's own website, where its own privacy policy applies.

5. Where your information is stored, how long we keep it, and how we protect it

Where. Your information is stored on servers in the European Union (Germany). If it is transferred to another country, we use safeguards required by applicable law, such as standard contractual clauses.

How long. We keep your information while your account is active and for up to 3 months after you close it, unless the law requires us to keep it longer (for example, billing records for tax purposes).

Security. We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information against unauthorised access, loss or misuse. No system is completely secure, but we work to protect your information and to respond promptly if a problem occurs.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

access the personal information we hold about you, and receive a copy of it;
correct information that is inaccurate;
ask us to delete your information;
object to or restrict certain processing;
withdraw consent you have given, without affecting processing that happened before;
complain to your local data protection authority.

To use any of these rights, contact us at contact@simracingscience.com. We may need to confirm your identity first. We will respond within the time the law requires.

California residents. You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose; to request deletion; to correct inaccurate information; and not to be treated differently for using these rights. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.

7. Cookies

Our website uses cookies that are necessary for it to work, such as keeping you signed in and keeping your session secure. If you arrive through a referral link or a link shared by another user, we also use a cookie to record the referral for up to 30 days. We do not use cookies for analytics or advertising. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the website may then not work.

8. Children

The Website is not intended for anyone under 13. If you are under 18, or under the age of digital consent where you live, you may use the Website only with the permission of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, contact us at contact@simracingscience.com and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you on the Website or by email before they take effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.
